Wet felting poppy landscape workshop | learn to wet felt | Jan 2026
Description
Wet felting poppy field workshop, Aberford, West Yorkshire. Aberford Village hall, Main St, Aberford, Leeds LS25 3DA. Aberford Village is near to Garforth – approx 25 mins drive from Harrogate, York and Leeds with a free road side parking. Relax, unwind and create…in this relaxed workshop you will be taught the wet felting method to create your own felt poppy landscape, as pictured. It’s perfect for beginners! Your poppy picture will turn out a little different to the one pictured as the process is such that every piece is unique and impossible to recreate exactly the same. On the wet felt workshop you will be given step by step instructions. At the end of the day you will take home your felted artwork to dry somewhere naturally. Once dry you can then frame it as it is – or you may wish to embellish it further at home with needle felting, hand sewing, embroidery, sew some beads on, etc! On the wet felt workshop. You will learn the wet felting technique, this involves laying out the dry loose merino wool to create your felt landscape. At the end we add warm soapy water and friction to make it turn into a solid piece of felt. I still find it magical today and love this process. If you struggle with the final part of the process (rolling the wool to get it to matt together) I will be on hand to help you every step of the way – so just let me know you need help. The wet felt workshop will be 4 hours long with a 30 min break for lunch and includes: - All equipment. - Merino wool. You will need to bring: - A small towel (to take your artwork home in) - Comfortable shoes – you may wish to work standing up (your choice) - Layers of clothing you can take off / put on so you are a comfortable temperature - Money for lunch and drinks on the day (£5 is enough for a drink, sandwich and cake). Extra info: * The workshops take place in Aberford Village Hall – Community Café. It’s a lovely big room with access to toilets. You gain entrance to it via the front door. Please bring some money to buy lunch from the community café. The café usually has: - Hot sandwiches: cheese toastie, bacon or sausage sandwich - £2.50 - Drinks: Tea, coffee, cans - £1 - Cakes: different each week - £1.50 Cancellations: * If I need to cancel for any reason you will be offered a choice of a full refund or transferring to a future workshop date. * Please do not attend if you have just come down with contagious illness (cold/flu/tummy bug and of course COVID). Maker
My work combines my training in painting with the ancient art of felt-making to celebrate and bring together the different skills of wet felting, needle felting and hand sewing. I uses wool to ‘paint’ with, needle felting to refine the detail and hand sewing for extra texture. I have a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, P.G.C.E. in Secondary Art Education. I teach felt making workshops in Aberford which has free roadside parking and is within 30 minutes drive of Leeds, Harrogate and York.
