Metal Lathe Induction & Familiarisation
Description
Metal Lathe Induction & Familiarisation is a structured, supervised session for members seeking machine induction and for those who want a practical introduction to using a metal lathe. This session covers metal lathe use (often referred to simply as a lathe) in a supervised workshop setting.Working in a small group, participants are guided through machine controls, workholding, cutting tools, and safe working practices. The session focuses on familiarisation and safe use rather than production work, with time for questions and hands-on supervised practice. Completion of the session does not automatically grant unsupervised access. Access is subject to assessment and internal approval, managed through Makerspace systems. Depending on experience and confidence, additional supervised shadowing sessions may be required before unsupervised access is granted. This session is suitable both for members seeking induction and for individuals interested in learning the basics of lathe operation in a supervised environment. No prior lathe experience is required.
