Metal Clay Silversmithing Workshop - Botanical Charms

X

Description

In this workshop you will start off by making a range of moulds from the inspiring natural items provided, then move on to making the silver clay charms. At the end of this workshop you will take home both the stunning charms and your own moulds which are fully reusable. Silver clay feels like normal clay but is full of fine silver particles combined with an organic binder, meaning it can be moulded easily to create these beautiful imprint charms. During the drying and firing process, this organic binder melts away leaving you with solid silver charms. Previous students have made charms from their favourite flowers, flowers used in their wedding bouquet, shells from special holidays, leaves from local forests or curated a random but beautiful range of charms which inspired them. First you will explore the range of foliage provided to pick the items you would like to imprint. Then you will learn how to imprint the items in a two-part silicone mix to create your moulds. After that, you will learn how to handle and shape the silver clay to give the best results in your final pieces. Once the moulds have been used successfully each charm will be dried and fired, with jump rings attached. This is a good opportunity to learn mould making and the basics of silver clay. Why not add these charms to your sterling silver bangle from our other workshop? There will be members of the Noctua team at hand throughout this process to support, advise and teach you the skills needed while allowing you to make the ring independently. This is a very interactive workshop but suitable for complete beginners, or people with prior experience of jewellery making. We will provide a range of small flowers, seeds, shells, stones, pods and leaves for this workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own to suit your design. If you need glasses for reading then we recommend you bring them on the day, along with wearing old clothes. You will need to wear closed toe shoes and tie up long hair. We do not have a strict age limit but please enquire before booking a class for anyone under the age of 16 just to confirm it will be suitable. All under 16’s in the workshop will need to be with a participating adult.
