This is a one day workshop for beginners but can be adapted to provide challenge to intermediate makers too.
The group is restricted to four people to ensure quality teaching and support.
You will learn to cut glass safely and competently, grind glass, copper-foil, solder and finish your project to take home.
By the end of the day you will have created a beautiful stained glass light catcher (see images) to hang in a bright window.
There are patterns for you to choose from in the studio and you will get plenty of help and support throughout the day in a small group of no more than 4 students.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All tools and materials are included in the cost of the day as well as a light lunch, snacks and hot drinks.
1 day (10:00am to 4:30pm)

This was an excellent course. Caryl explained everything and suited her style for the different levels of experience, spending time with each person to make sure they understood the techniques. Caryl also let each person tailor their hanging to suit their preference which everyone very much appreciated. The lunch was lovely and Caryl created a very friendly atmosphere. Thanks Caryl!

Thank you for taking the time and effort to review my workshop Tammy- it's very much appreciated. Your tortoise creation is a triumph! I hope it's found pride of place in your home. Thanks, CarylAttended this 1-day course and it was brilliant. Caryl is a friendly, energetic and patient instructor. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely day out creating stained glass art pieces.
Response from Caryl Hallett Stained Glass:
Thank you Matt. So good to hear you had a great day! CarylThis was a really enjoyable day making a stained glass art hanging. Caryl was lovely and walked us through various processes with ease, enabling us all to come away with something really quite fabulous! Only 4 people in the class, making sure you get all the help and attention you need. Can't recommend any course with Caryl enough, you won't be disappointed. Going back to do another course in June!
Fabulous lunch too 😊
Thank you so much Caryl x
Response from Caryl Hallett Stained Glass:
Thanks Philippa- so good to hear you all had a fab time! Caryl xI bought this course as a birthday present for my 80 year old mum as something to do together; both of us loved it. Caryl's instructions were very clear giving us plenty of time to practise the techniques before choosing our project. She gave us useful advice regarding making choices on contrasting and complementary colours and glass textures and was generous in allowing us to use unusual glass in her collection. She was especially helpful to my mum, who has shaky hands, and we both came away with items of which we are both very proud and display at home.
A lovely lunch, including vegan items for another lady on the course.
I'll be returning for another project, with my mum!
Thank you, Caryl.
Caryl uses her stained glass work talent and mixes this with her superb teaching skill to provide a wonderful workshop. Her lesson plan is relaxed, yet ensures you have learnt a a large number of skills to be able to produce a finished product at the end of the day. The workshop is a wonderfully creative environment to begin to learn the wonders of glass and appreciate the talents of those who produce copper foiling, leaded stained glass or fused glass. Her enthusiasm is contagious and I left after one day of copper foiling, feeling proud of what I had produced, relaxed and rejuvenated and knowing I want to learn a lot more. I will be booking for another course next year.
I did the stained glass light catcher course. It was an excellent day. Caryl is a good teacher, spent plenty of time with everyone, and explained things really well. She made sure we could all do the each step of the process and went out of her way to help us do what we wanted to do. And the lunch was lovely too.
Just spent a (birthday present) day making a stained glass panel with Caryl & absolutely loved it!
A brilliant teacher, beautiful glass, delicious lunch- a wonderful wonderful day! Highly recommended!
I received this day course as a Christmas gift from my partner, following me saying how I’d like to try something new and give me the chance to get creative.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself, learning some new skills and bringing home a finished piece I’m proud to call my own. Caryl was a great teacher, giving us the confidence to get stuck in (after the initial housekeeping rules) and the small class size (5 of us) meant she was able to give us all one to one time.
We had access to lots of glass - of various shades and textures - so was able to get our creative juices flowing!
I am looking forward to signing myself up to another course soon!
Just finished a fabulous day of stained glass making. Such a great teacher and course, Caryl showed us the techniques to create our own individual pieces (I'm really proud of mine!) The class size was small, which enabled everyone to help, when they needed it. It is the first course like this I have done and feel very inspired to do another-maybe even the Christmas one!
I would like to thank Caryl for a brilliant day we produced three Christmas themed pieces each to take home with us, she is a lovely patient teacher which was great for me. We enjoyed hot drinks and a hearty lunch which was delicious. It was also great to meet four other like minded ladies who also attended the workshops they made my husband and myself very welcome into the group and all were very entertaining.. The workshop gave us confidence to try more Stained Glass projects, would recommend it to anyone that likes to try new things.
Arrived at Caryl's workshop with no experience of stained glass, and came away with a wonderful piece of glass art.
Thanks to Caryl's patience and knowledge of what she is doing, she gave me the confidence to achieve things which i couldn't imagine.
All in all a great day, with plenty of one on one time, which was what i needed.
Also the lunch was a real bonus, and my partner enjoyed the cake too.
Many thanks to Caryl

What a brilliant day! This was such an enjoyable course, and covered everything you need to know to get started working with stained glass. Caryl is a great tutor, very helpful, very patient, with lots of great suggestions and solutions. We all ended up with amazing pieces of stained glass artwork that we managed to create in a day. Will definitely be booking another course with Caryl.
Can't recommend this course enough if you are interested in trying glass. Caryl is very patient and shows you how to cut and grind the glass safely before you start. She has lots of great designs to choose from and an amazing selection of glass for you to work with. My light catcher has pride of place in my window. Already booked myself on the lead panel class to further my knowledge. The lunch provided was lovely too.
I spent a very rewarding time at Caryl's light catcher workshop on a grey February day. It was immensely rewarding and delightful to take home a piece of art, predominantly made by me!
Caryl is a patient teacher and as she kept the attendance at the workshop small, she can provide quality support. A tasty lunch was an added bonus.
This was an amazing day , I learnt and achieved so much , caryl was amazing and a great teacher , I highly recommend any course with caryl as she inspires and encourages you so much , great lunch too
I attended the class not knowing anything and came home with a light catcher I am immensely proud of! Caryl is a very good teacher and is patient and helpful and I now feel that I am able to have a go myself at home. My family are amazed at what I've achieved and I think I will be making a few presents for people when Christmas comes! I can't recommend Caryl enough if you are thinking of having a go, the place is very easy to get to and with a light lunch thrown in it's a totally enjoyable day!
Have booked myself and a friend on another of these fab courses. We had a wonderful day - Caryl was so patient and gave us all the help we needed to make some beautiful (even though I say so myself!!) glass decorations. I never considered myself to be creative but it's given me the crafty bug for sure - can't wait for the next one!
Fantastic workshop and Caryl is a really great teacher. I went in not knowing a thing about how to make stained glass and came out with my very own takeaway piece which I cut, copper foiled and soldered myself. Caryl provided plenty of help, attention and expertise when needed and I really enjoyed the process of making the stained glass piece. Couldn't recommend this course enough!
I went to Caryl's one-day pre-Christmas workshop and came away with a gorgeous collection of little glass trees which I gave as gifts. Perfect.
