Course Start DatesFriday 3rd April 2020
About the Course
Make a pole lathe. Involves some carpentry, but tuition provided so no experience necessary. The lathe should be completed in the first 2 days, allowing the 3rd day for getting the hang of using it. The lathe can be packed down and transported in the back of a car. Turning tools available for sale at the course.
This is a great way to get into the absorbing therapeutic activity of pole lathe turning or "bodging". Bodgers are known for their resourcefulness and tend to create the tools they need from materials at hand, rather than visiting the DIY store; so bearing that in mind, building your own lathe is an ideal way to embark on this journey.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Price includes materials: a 4 inch thick slab of oak or ash, with a slot already cut, and poppets (head and tailstocks) of 4 X 8 inches, as well as all the other wood, hand made lathe centres and hinges so you have a complete lathe to take home at the end.
Lunch and refreshments are provided.
There is a Bed and Breakfast at Warren Farm on the estate for accommodation, or we can advise on other local accommodation.
