This is one of our small group (max 4 people) leather goods making courses for beginners that we organise at our London studio. Using beautiful vegetable-tanned leather, basic leather tools and simple metal fittings, you will make a stitchless leather bag while learning five basic leather working techniques. You will customise your bag by choosing between two designs and selecting your preferred colours of leather and fittings. No sewing skills or experience is required! At the end of the course, you won’t just take home a beautiful bag made entirely by you but also an understanding of working with leather and essential leather tools. WHAT WILL I LEARN? During our leather goods making courses, you will always receive an introduction to: -Different leather types -Essential leather tools You will then learn these 5 basic leather working techniques: -Marking leather -Cutting leather -Folding leather -Punching leather -Burnishing leather In the second part of the course, you will apply the techniques learnt by hand-cutting and assembling your beautiful bag using screw studs. No sewing is required.

You will be provided with useful digital and paper handouts which contain: – An introduction to leather types and features – A glossary of leather craft tools which includes images and helpful descriptions – A list of the basic fittings used in handbag making, including images and descriptions – A list of reputable suppliers to buy leather and fittings from (in London and online)

The London Leather Workshopis a design, prototyping and manufacturing studio founded by Italian designers and makers Sara Battiston and Melissa Bruscoli. With 20 years of experience in the fashion and accessory industry Sara and Melissa work with both local and international customers ranging from start-ups to established brands. Their studio is able to offer a range of services from design consultancy to product development and from prototyping to manufacturing of handbags, accessories and soft furnishings. Their practical classes will teach you the fundamental techniques of working with leather or vegan leather, how to sew these materials to a professional standard and how to create customised goods. The theoretical classes will provide you with the foundation for designing bags and accessories as well as insights and essential information about the industry.
