Letters to the Future - a writing and bookbinding workshop
Description
Edinburgh-based bookbinder Cass Barron and writer Julie Galante are teaming up to deliver this special letter-themed workshop and would love you to join them! Originally inspired by the Book Week Scotland 2020 theme, this workshop invites you to create a book of memories and letters to the future, resulting in a unique personal project or gift for a loved one. Via a series of pre-recorded online videos, tutorials, and writing prompts, Cass and Julie will lead you through the making process and provide you with writing guidance. We’ll discuss letter-writing as a means for communicating, storytelling, and processing our own thoughts. We’ll go through some writing exercises that explore themes of self-reflection, hopes, dreams and ambitions for the future, resulting in a hand-bound collection of uplifting, inspiring and poignant letters. The book structure will involve making and decorating envelopes, stitching them together using an exposed French link stitch and adding a hard front and back cover – a great structure for storing your own writing as well as cards and letters you have received.
What's included in the price?
You will receive a kit containing all the tools and materials you will need to create your book – this consists of good quality bookbinding tools, a range of recycled, vintage and decorative papers, stamps, and a few surprises… trust us when we say it will be a joy to open! This version of this workshop is entirely self-paced: you’ll have access to all the online workshop materials to work through at your own pace, and come back to again and again.
