Description

A one-day course specifically aimed at complete beginners with no previous experience. This practical, hands-on course is the perfect introduction to heritage craft of wood carving, within a friendly and creative environment. Sarah will guide you through the basics of wood carving and you will learn to use traditional wood carving skills in the creation of your very own masterpiece. You will gain an understanding of the processes involved and, by the end of the day, will have completed and will be able to take home, a relief carving in lime wood - as well as, hopefully, a new found passion for your new hobby. Born in Warwickshire and married with 2 grown up children, she has pursued many hobbies and interests in a variety of arts and crafts. Around 30 years ago Sarah took up traditional, victorian-style, rocking horse making and restoration, the first one being for her daughter. She found that this led to a further interest in wood carving, which has been passionately pursuing for over 15 years. The subjects she carves includes animals, using a variety of woods, and traditional hand-carving methods, using gouges and mallets. One day workshops are held within our studio at the beautiful Sudbury Courtyard, Derbyshire which is set on the edge of the grounds of the National Trust Sudbury Hall and nestled on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The perfect environment for inspiring your creativity.
