💚 Introduction to oil and cold wax painting. - A three week course. - Wednesdays. - Starting 15th April 2026. - 10.30am to 1.00pm. - New Mills Studios. - Two and a half hours tuition each week. Forget perfection. This course is about exploration, curiosity, and learning to trust your marks. This three week course offers an introduction to oil and wax painting with a focus on atmospheric landscape, expressive mark making, and gentle abstraction. You will be guided step by step through my process, moving from exploratory marks and textures towards an atmospheric landscape. Each week builds naturally on the last, allowing skills and confidence to grow steadily. Week One | Beginners Guide An introduction to materials, tools, and techniques. We will explore oil paint and wax medium, basic mark making, working wet into wet, and building confidence through playful experimentation. Week Two | Developing Landscape A deeper focus on atmosphere. We will explore painting skies and land, building layers of colour, movement, and light, and learning how abstraction can suggest space and weather. Week Three | Adding Elements and Depth Bringing the landscape together. We will explore adding elements such as hills, distant forms, and reflections in water, learning how to create depth, balance, and quiet drama within the painting. You will work on specialist paper designed for oil painting and will work towards completing a painting by the end of the course. Each session includes demonstrations, practical guidance, and plenty of supported studio time. Skill level: Suitable for all levels. Beginners are warmly welcomed and experienced painters are encouraged to explore new approaches. Cost: £55 per session or £150 for the full three week course.
