About the Course

Amigurumi and other types of crochet for beginners is now taught on a one2one or one2two basis so book in for yourself or learn with a friend.

Please enquire if you would learn to crochet and we can arrange a mutually convenient date. Weekdays are often available, or we can arrange a short evening course over 2-3 weeks to give you opportunity to practice in between sessions. Saturdays and Sundays are often booked several weeks in advance so please enquire about weekend availability to see what we can do.

Learn the basics of Amigurumi crochet - no experience required as we will be following a pattern together to learn the crochet techniques which we require to make a small Amigurumi animal.

So what is Amigurumi? This is the art of creating a 3D shaped item using crochet or knitting. It is perfect for making toys, characters, and even vases or baskets from wool, cotton, or synthetic wools.

And it's very satisfying as well as fun to see your item take shape - literally!

Groups can be accomodated in a workshop arranged specifically for you on a mutually agreeable date.

A workshop can be arranged for teens (must be accompanied by a paying participant, or can also be accompanied by a non-paying parent/grandparent etc). Please note though that Amigurumi crochet is quite intensive, requiring continuous counting and concentration :)

You will be provided with the tuition plus yarn, hook and pattern as well as any items needed to finish the project eg yarn and stuffing. You will be able to take away your chosen pattern, yarn to finish the pattern, and the crochet hook which you have used.

You will learn several techniques including holding the yarn and hook (there are several ways, we will work out what is most comfortable for you), tension and gauge, methods of beginning your crochet, crocheting in the round, stuffing, and finishing.

Hot and cold drinks plus biscuits are included - please bring your own lunch and any other refreshments which you would like.

Buying as a gift or for a special occasion? Please contact us as we would love to share the occasion with you.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Had a brilliant day doing this course. Sally tailored her teaching to meet the needs of those completely new to crochet and those with some experience. I went after trying (unsuccessfully) to learn crochet from YouTube so I was a complete beginner and I'm now obsessed! I went straight to the craft shop and got more supplies and my technique has improved dramatically over the last couple of days. Would recommend this to anyone. It was a relaxed atmosphere and everyone else on the course was lovely too.

Our day yesterday was brilliant. The group number was good, the venue lovely and Sally herself was a kind, welcoming and patient tutor. Our day was marked by lots of laughter which for me means participants were relaxed, and consequently in a good place to learn. Acquiring any new skill is initially a challenge but Sally took away the fear and was incredibly patient. I am already looking at booking my next course with her and can’t wait for it. Five star in every way!

Response from Craft Workshops:

Thank you for your review Sarah and for coming along to the Workshop. I'm really pleased you enjoyed it and, having not completed a crocheted item before, your finished Amigurumi whale is wonderful! Look forward to seeing you again.
