Impressionist Inspirations in Textiles

X

Description

Using Impressionism as our inspiration, we will create a small piece in fabric, approx. 30cm square, using the “confetti” technique. We cut tiny pieces of fabric (confetti) to sprinkle onto a painted background coloured first with fabric paints. The fabrics are secured with tulle before we machine stitch using free-motion stitching ideally – although this can be hand stitched, using seed stitches. What to bring: A couple of paintbrushes, a china or plastic plate for mixing colours on, a rotary cutter with sharp blade, a quilters ruler, small cutting mat, fabric scissors, pins. Scrap fabrics plain or patterned – ideally pastel shades Containers for different colours of confetti – plastic takeaway trays/icecream tubs etc are ideal. You will need 6- 10 of these. Sewing machine with free motion foot (embroidery/darning foot) a variety of sewing threads – pastel and landscape colours. If handsewing – a variety of embroidery threads and needles
