Welding Taster Evenings With Nige Andrews

Description

Our 'welding taster evenings' run on the last Wednesday of each month, giving aspiring welders the chance to step into the world of welding for three hours from 6pm to 9pm. This is your opportunity to see through the eyes of a professional welder and gain a real sense of what this rewarding skill can bring to a career, hobby or retirement. This taster evening is ideal if you are: 1. A school leaver considering welding as a career. 2. Someone thinking about a career change into welding full time. 3. Curious about welding and want to explore the different processes. 4. Interested in welding as a hobby or a personal/retirement project. During the evening, you’ll discover the differences and uses of TIG and MIG welding, see how repair work is carried out on different materials and gain insight into welding equipment including how it works, what different settings do and how understanding your tools can make all the difference in achieving strong and clean welds. You’ll enjoy a relaxed but informative evening that covers: - Live demonstrations of TIG & MIG welding techniques. - An introduction to different welding joints such as pipe welding, butt welds, and t-fillets, with explanations of their strengths and uses. - How welding equipment works, including the impact of different settings and materials on weld quality. - The “must-know” health and safety essentials every welder should understand. - An overview of the career and hobby opportunities welding can open up. THIS TASTER EVENING IS OBSERVATIONAL ONLY. While you won’t be welding yourself, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to watch closely through a mask, handle real materials, see welds up close, and ask as many questions as you like. This is the perfect introduction to welding before deciding if a full-day hands-on welding workshop with us is the right next step for you.

I’m Nige Andrews, a seasoned welder, hands-on trainer and the founder of Qualitig, a Coventry-based welding workshop. For over 30 years I’ve worked across a wide range of industries from custom one-off projects to high-volume production including producing the torch for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022. What I enjoy most is sharing my knowledge and working with people who are new to welding or coming back to it after some time away. I believe in making welding approachable, practical and enjoyable, so you can build confidence while learning real-world skills. Please do not hesitate to message me if you have any questions.

FAQs

Anyone, no prior experience or qualifications needed. Just bring your enthusiasm and pen and paper to write down notes.

Not in this taster session. Instead, you’ll get a front-row seat as Nige demonstrates live welding, breaking down the technique, decision-making, and safety that goes into every weld. You’ll be able to look through a mask and see the process up close, handle real materials, inspect finished welds and ask all the questions you like. Think of it as a behind the scenes masterclass with a few surprises to keep things hands-on and engaging.

Each session is limited to 4 people to keep the workshop small and ensure personal contact time with the instructor.

You’re paying for three hours of insider access with a welder with decades of hands-on experience. Instead of spending the evening just trying to strike an arc and leaving more confused than when you arrived, you’ll walk away with clarity. You’ll see welding done properly up close and personal and leave understanding exactly how TIG and MIG really work and know which direction suits you best before investing in a full day workshop with us. It’s all about fast tracking your knowledge so you can spend a whole day welding with us at one of our workshops.

You’ll know if welding is something you want to pursue and if so which path to take. Plus, you’ll get a goody bag, insider notes you can actually use and maybe even a darts prize if your aim’s on point. It’s also great if you simply want a unique evening out doing something different.
