Glass fusing workshop - 2 hours (am)

Jewellery made in microwave kiln.

What is glass fusing?
Glass fusing is a process where glass pieces and decorative elements fused together at high temperatures in a kiln. Depending on the process you choose you can make many different projects from light benders to waves, lanterns, jewellery to tea lights.

What will I learn?
• Cutting glass
• Designing a simple fused glass piece
• Assembling a fused glass piece for firing

What can I make?
We are not prescriptive in what you can make. So long as it fits in our kiln, and can be made in the time allowed you are good to go! In a 2 hour workshop we are fairly focused to get you cutting and making right from the start, so the list below gives you an idea of what’s achievable in the time available.
However, if you have a specific idea in mind let us know and we will advise if we can make it in the time allowed.

Choose from 1 of the following to make on your workshop:
• 2 x 10cm square coasters
• 2 x small light catchers (approx. 10cm x 5cm)
• 1 curved tea-light catcher
• 1 waved tea-light catcher
• 1 small dish / bowl (approx. 15cm x 15cm)
• Christmas decorations
• Jewellery set (e.g. Pendant & earrings)

All the items that you make will be yours to keep. Once the item/s has been fired we will notify you it is ready. We can arrange postage of the item/s, or if it's more convenient, you can come and collect it. Most items are ready within 2 weeks, however, this can often be sooner.

We have some dates for these courses planned, however, we can also run them as and when required. We offer midweek, weekends and evenings, so we are very flexible. Many of our customers book a 'crafty day-off work' with the added benefit of feeling they are enjoying it more because they are not at work or eating into their weekend time.

How many people will be on the course?
We keep the number of delegates small, between 1 to 6. We do not mix people who do not know each other. When you book if you are booking for yourself or a group of friends/relatives, those people will be the only ones on your session. Small groups give you maximum tutor time and a relaxed atmosphere in which to be creative.

Jill and John are your tutors. They both hold industry recognised professional training qualifications. This means not only do they know their subject but more importantly how to share it with others in a form that is easy to pick up and in a fun and enjoyable way.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

• Use of all tools and equipment in the glass studio
• All the materials required to complete your piece
• Up to 2 firings in the glass kiln
(typically we will tack fuse or fully fuse your piece on one firing, then fire again if you wish to ‘slump’ the piece into a shape on a former)
• Hot and cold beverages, biscuits and often cake will be available throughout the day
(we are a 5-star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)

I had a lovely 2 hour glass fusing session last weekend. It was very informative and I got to make 2 pieces that I cant wait to see the final result. John and Jill were really friendly and accommodating. I'd recommended 😊

Response from Fired Glass:

Hi Amy

So pleased you enjoyed your time with us and above all we made you feel welcome and you created some lovely pieces. The waiting afterwards can be the worst part until the kiln has done its stuff!

Kind regards
John and Jill

What a wonderful time I had. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable session. Was made to feel very relaxed even though I’m not the most creative person in the world! Thank you and can’t wait to come back!

Response from Fired Glass:

That is just what we like to hear Laura. We would love to see you again! Kind regards John and Jill.

I was bought this workshop as a gift and was the only attendee that morning which meant I had 1 to 1 tuition and loads of help which I think is amazing for the price.
I enjoyed creating in the cozy workshop with my tea and homemade cake and made a piece just as lovely as I’d hoped.
I’d recommend this course to anyone, it was very accessible and personable.

Response from Fired Glass:

Thank you Daisy for your review. We aim to provide a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere to be creative in. As you mentioned we do not open bookings to the general public which means if you book a place for 1 person or a group of your friends you will be the only ones on the course. Thank you for your recommendation, that means a lot to us. Regards John and Jill.

Jill was a great tutor, a very talented lady. I was quite anxious that my poor drawing and visualization of my end product would lead to disaster, but she listened well and suggested ways to proceed. Within 30 mins I was loving it and was so excited to complete my piece. I cannot wait to see it when it comes out of the kiln. I'm already telling my friends and hope to return for a full day. Fab cake too.

Response from Fired Glass:

Thank you Allison for your review and positive comments. We would love to see you again in the future. Glad you liked the cake! Regards John and Jill
