Description

This workshop is at an introductory level. It is ideal for people who have never tried glass fusing. If you already have some experience, you'll be able to create a more intricate design. I'll introduce you to the process of cutting sheet glass by scoring and breaking. You will also have a selection of frit (crushed glass) and stringers (long strands of glass) available to create your design. All of the glass used in this workshop will be transparent, so that the colours shine brightly in sunlight. You'll start with a pre-cut and drilled base of clear glass, choosing between a range of different shapes (eg 5cmx20cm rectangle, 12cm diameter circle) You'll have the flexibility to pursue your own creative ideas, though I'll also have a selection of botanic and geometric examples to provide inspiration if needed. Making your project will probably take between 1½ and 2 hours, depending on how ambitious and dexterous you are. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided (vegan biscuits and oat milk will be available). After the workshop, your piece of art will be taken back to my studio for firing. Within about a week, it will be ready for collection or delivery. I can post your art to you for a small extra fee. The typical group size is 4-5. The maximum group size is 8 and the course will only run if there are at least 3 bookings. It’s fine to book a place on this workshop for well-behaved children aged 9+ as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult. This workshop will be held at Broome Village Hall, DY9 0HA. This offers a light and airy space, with plenty of room to spread out if needed. There is wheelchair access and the adjacent car park has plenty of space for the size of group. Broome is a beautiful little village near to the Clent Hills, with lots of countryside walks and pubs if you are planning to include the workshop as part of a full day out. I am always happy to run workshops for a group of friends. Please get in touch.

Glass Art Designs is run by me, Beckie Cresswell - I personally teach all of our courses. I have always been interested in nature and the natural environment. After A-levels I studied Biology at university and then went on to be a secondary school Science teacher for 20 years. In my free time I've always enjoyed trying different crafts. When I tried glass fusing, I knew I'd found a craft that I loved. After completing a few more courses, I decided to buy a kiln myself. After lots more learning, experimenting and improving, I set up Glass Art Designs. I've been making and selling glass art ever since then and my work has been shipped all over the world. I'm new to CraftCourses.com but I'm certainly no novice at helping people to learn in a fun environment. I'm delighted to be able to share my passion for teaching with my love of fusing glass!
