Four week pottery course at the Crafty Potter



A fantastic four week course that can be spread over a six month period, days & times to suit you. The class is taught 1:1 unless you come as a couple or group. This is great for those that have busy schedules or can't commit to set days. The classes run every day except Mondays, including weekends.

The course is suitable for all ages & beginners, more advanced potters welcome. The course is a great introduction to clay & the various methods used by potters. Children must be 8 years or over to attend the class.
After your first session with us, you simply book in for your next session. You can come any day or time when the studio is open. Each session lasts around 2.5 hours, however there is no fixed time limit and you can take as long as you wish making your pottery item.

You will learn how to make various items in clay using a variety of pottery techniques, all taught by sharon an experienced self taught sculptor & online Guest Ceramic Instructor for clayshare.

Week/Session 1: Coiling

You will learn how to coil clay and assemble a pot that can either be functional or decorative. The coiling of pots is just a term for the method of construction & they can be finished in a thousand different ways. You will be shown the technique & will make your own pot during the session.

Week/Session 2: Potter's wheel

You will be shown how to throw, centre and pull a pot on the potters wheel. After being shown and helped with your first two pots, you then have time to practice the various techniques by yourself.

Week/Session 3: Slab Work

Slab pots can take a variety of forms from pots, boxes and vases, we will explore these and the different finishes and you will learn how to roll and assemble clay using this method, to create your own clay creation.

Week/Session 4: Modelling/sculpture

In this session you will learn how to shape, mould ,blend and assemble an Animal figure in clay. You can either choose your own animal or choose from our potter creations : Highland cow , Hares, Pigs, Dogs, Donkeys to name a few.

Once you have attended this course there is the option of becoming a Potter Member.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All materials & equipment to use during the session.

Your favourite item Glazed & fired - All other items made can be taken home to air dry and painted or decorated as you wish with acrylics.

Optional extra: Alternatively you can have any of your creations kiln fired at a cost of £3.50 per item (this includes a return visit to paint the item in the studio) or you may wish to have all your creations fired at a cost of £20 (includes 2-3 return visits for glazing)

Drinks and snacks can be brought with you or can be purchased from the Barn cafe next to the studio.
