This fantastic six week course runs from The crafty Potter Studio in the beautiful village of Heskin, Lancashire. The course runs six consecutive weeks and runs in small groups of 1-4 unless you come as part of a larger group. Classes run every day except Sundays & Mondays.
The course is suitable for beginners and those aged 14 years +
The course is a great introduction to clay & the various methods used by potters. You will learn how to make various items in clay using a variety of pottery techniques, all taught by Sharon an experienced sculptor & clay artist.
Week/Session 1: Coiling (2.5 hrs)
You will learn how to coil clay and assemble a pot that can either be functional or decorative. The coiling of pots is just a term for the method of construction & they can be finished in a thousand different ways. You will be shown the technique & will make your own pot during the session.
Week/Session 2: Potter's wheel (2hrs)
You will be shown how to throw, centre and pull a pot on the potters wheel.
Week/Session 3: Slab Work (2.5 hrs)
Slab pots can take a variety of forms from pots, boxes and vases, we will explore these and the different finishes and you will learn how to roll and assemble clay using this method, to create your own clay creation.
Week/Session 4: Modelling/sculpture (3 hrs)
In this session you will learn how to shape, mould, blend and assemble an animal figure in clay. You can either choose your own animal or choose from our potter creations : Highland cow, Hares, Pigs, Dogs, Donkeys to name a few.
Week/Session 5 & 6 (2.5hrs each)
These are glazing sessions where you will explore different glazing technique's and apply some of these to the work you have created over the first 4 sessions.
Once you have attended this course there is the option of becoming a Potter Member.
