Welcome to my online Exploration through sketching video course, where we will look at how to ‘start a new project’. As a professional artist and tutor, I know how important key art skills are. This course is designed to take you through some simple exercises to help you to explore an image and create sketches and ideas to ‘start a new project’. As a tutor with 20 years’ experience, I love introducing students to techniques they can use to develop their own practice. Whether you are new to art and want to know where to start or are an experienced artist who just finds it hard to ‘start a new project’, then this is the course for you. This course is broken down into 5 lessons (or exercises). Taking you step by step through different ways to observe and develop an idea from one or more source images. Exploration through sketching – starting a new project, has been designed as an online studio-based course for you to work along with at home. Is this course for me? Do you want to work on simple drawing exercises in graphite, charcoal and pastel? Do you want to work on a series of drawings to develop your core skills? Find different ways to work from one source image to generate different ideas? - Then yes this is for you. The course assumes you have a little previous drawing knowledge (although suitable for complete beginners) and presents each piece of information or skill in manageable lessons. Allowing you to work through at your own pace, completing each lesson and building on the previous lesson’s skills. This course is also accompanied by a printable equipment list and source photographs used in the lessons, so you can work along with my demonstrations. Or choose your own images to work with. How long does the course take to complete? There are over 1 hour & 40 mins of videos, which can be watched and worked through in one day if you are in a rush. But I suggest you take one lesson at a time, playing with the ideas and exploring your sketches before moving on. The course is designed specifically to help you generate new ways to approach a subject. (This course gives you 24 hour access to the course materials for 4 months) You will be sent an email with login details and a link to the course.

What does the course cover? Introduction – A quick course overview and a look at the main equipment you need. Lesson 1 – Making a viewfinder Lesson 2 – Continuous lines + a bonus video Lesson 3 – Finding tones with graphite Lesson 4 – Charcoal; equipment, how to trace and finding tones Lesson 5 – Pastel- equipment, finding tones + 2 bonus videos Everything you need to set you on the road to creating your own ideas and start a new project! And don't forget you will have access to my Student Chatroom and dedicated area to post your work and get feedback.

What you will need

You will first need to register with my website, where you will be given access to the course. You will be sent an email with login details and links. What will I need to start the course? Well to start the course you only need a means of watching each of the video lessons online. An equipment list is supplied and I run through it all in the Introduction video. Over the course I demo with graphite pencils, willow charcoal and a couple of pastels, you probably have everything you’ll need! Can I get more support? Yes. Once enrolled on the course you will also have access to my student chatroom, with a dedicated area for you to post images of your work, interact with other members and I’ll be around to give feedback and comments. Can I let my family and friend access the course? Your log on details for online learning and digital content is for your personal use only and should not be shared. Unfortunately once access to the course has been given I am unable to give a refund. What happens if I lose my login? To keep my site secure I do not have access to any passwords. She studied Art & Design for three years in the Midlands before moving to the Sussex coast and gaining a Related Arts B.A. (Hons) Degree along with several teaching qualifications.
