Box it! 3 Day intermediate Course

X

Description

Take the next step on your woodworking journey. This course is designed to give a more in depth look at more refined woodworking. Over 3 consecutive days design and make your own small keepsake box. After selecting your timber from a range of hardwood and softwoods, you will learn to resaw and prepare timber from rough sawn stock, cutting joinery for your box by hand and creating snug fitting lids. This course is an ideal follow-up to our Cut it!, Cracket! or Shelve it! courses, aimed at taking your skills to the next stage - it is still a beginners course but one where you can get more creative and hone your skills further. The courses are run from our small workshop in the heart of Weardale in County Durham, a stunning remote part of the country with dramatic lanscapes and varied wildlife in abundance. The workshop is nestled next to a stream in the heart of a beautiful and calming nature reserve which is home to a wild array of flora and fauna. Our location provides an extra dimension of relaxation and escapism from the world where you can focus on the calming simplicity of hand tool woodworking. Refine your sawing, chiselling and planing skills while discovering different joinery techniques and have an opportunity to try more specialist hand tools.

FAQs

We are situated at the heart of a former quarry which, while beautiful, means the ground can be quite uneven underfoot. In addition to this there are steps up to the workshop and our toilet facilities are accessed up a small grassy bank to the side of the workshop. While we will try our upmost to accomodate every woodworker, the limitations of our site will offer some challenges to those with additional access needs. However, please get in contact with me via this platform and we can discuss your needs further.

During the course, you will be provided with all the tools you need as this ensures all tools are sharp and ready to safely use. For this reason you wont be able to use your own tools, however if you have any hand tools you want advice on how to set up, sharpen etc then by all means bring them along and I can give advice during the tea break.
