Description

Enjoy a relaxing and inspiring day in a homely environment in south Liverpool, exploring the potential to print red sustainable with eucalyptus leaves. Guided by Maggie Pearson, an experienced botanical printer and teacher, you will learn how to create botanical 'eco' prints by [1] steaming and [2] in a 'dirty' dye pot which is rich in eucalyptus, other tannins and iron and creates wonderfully complex backgrounds. There are over 800 varieties of eucalyptus trees, and a small number create stunning leaf prints in red. The workshop will be at Maggie's home with its well stocked garden in south Liverpool. Whilst having fun in a relaxed environment, you'll learn how to create a dye bath in which to immerse your bundles of fabric and leaves; how to steam bundles and how to print samples of leaves to identify which print and which do not. You'll also create a beautiful fine wool gauze or silk scarf with eucalyptus prints of your choice [based on your sample results]. This course is suitable for beginners or those with some eco printing experience who wish to understand better printing with eucalyptus. As participant numbers are restricted to five, there will be plenty of time for discussion. Normally, these workshops need a minimum of three participants to run. You can purchase extra pieces of cloth to print if you wish, on the day.
