Blow a glass tumbler

X

Description

A rare chance to experience working with molten glass straight from the furnace. Working at a traditional glass furnace with the expertise of a highly skilled glass maker, the class offers all you need for an exhilarating and unusual experience. By the end of the session you will never see glass in the same way again. The class is for 6 people, with 2 tutors. This is very much a hands-on experience. You will work in two groups of 3, with a tutor guiding each group. We will explain what the equipment is in the studio and how to work safely in a challenging environment. You will be guided through the basics of working with hot glass and will become familiar with the tools and equipment. You will move quickly on to gathering glass from the furnace, shaping it, applying colour and blowing a glass bubble. Next you will apply a ‘punty’ (transferring the piece to a solid iron), then re-heat the bubble and open out the neck to create a tumbler.
