Beginners Stained Glass Foiling Class - Funky Candleholder

Learn the basics of foiling stained glass and make a colourful candleholder in just one day! "Great course, time flew, it was so engrossing... " - Sue This workshop is a one-day introduction to the foiling method of 3-dimensional stained glass construction (sometimes called the Tiffany method) - going beyond making a panel or simple suncatcher! You'll make a fun candleholder or tealight holder approximately 10cm in diameter and up to 15cm high, in your choice of colours like the ones shown - a delight to enjoy at home any time of year! You'll gain a grounding in the essential techniques of foiling with plenty of hands-on experience with the tools we use, and lots of tips, tricks and a little history of modern stained glass. One-day Funky Candleholder copper foiling Stained glass class for up to 6 people - structure of the workshop. We start out by looking at the basic processes and tools we'll be using: - Scoring and breaking glass, using oil-cutter, grozing pliers and cut runner - Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, copper foil and crimping tool - Ensuring the pieces will all fit together! - How to hold the pieces together while soldering - essential for 3d designs! - Soldering using a high-power soldering iron and fluxes - Finishing off with decorative details, then cleaning and waxing We'll take you through a demonstration of how we score and break glass and then you'll then practise cutting and breaking glass! At each stage we'll demonstrate the tools and techniques needed, and step by step your candleholder will take shape! You'll learn how to cut the circle of mirror glass for the base and then choose the colours and cut all the glass for the sides of your candleholder; you'll then prepare them for foiling and joining together. When we're all ready for a break, we'll have lunch from the nearby Cafe. All the pieces will then be foiled and soldered together, and then we'll share the special techniques we've perfected to join the sides together and complete your Candleholder. At the end of the day your candleholder will be ready to take home! What attendees have said about our classes: "Interesting, inspirational and relaxing - a great way to spend 'me' time." Sadly not - due to the nature of the materials our classes are for adults only.

With all one-day and longer stained glass classes we include an info pack with details of the tools you've used and suppliers plus reminders of techniques used. This isn't included in half-day classes.
We'll be delighted to help you decided what's needed.

For fusing classes we're happy to advise on tools, materials and kilns on request.

Materials are included in all beginners classes - fusing and stained glass.
Please bring reading glasses if you use them, and sturdy fully enclosed shoes (no sandals).
Aprons, googles and gloves are provided where needed.

Because you will be using lead and solder containing lead on stained glass classes.
Lead is known to pose a higher risk to babies than to adults.

We welcome participating friends or partners.
Sadly there isn't room at most classes for non-participating friends or partners.

Of course!
Fused glass will need to be collected after firing - we will contact you when ready.

This depends on which class you're planning to book.
For stained glass classes - it will be difficult to complete the class if you have severe arthritis or similar.

For fused glass classes - we suggest you choose a class which doesn't involve glass cutting - feel free to contact us to discuss.

If the class you're planning to book is described as 'for beginners' then yes!
Some of our classes are for improvers - these are described as such in the listing.

We have GF and Vegan biscuits in stock normally.
We will bring in non-dairy milk if advised in advance.

Lunches, where included, are provided by the Bell Cafe nearby which caters for intolerances, vegetarians and vegans.

Yes - plenty!
