Beginners Stained Glass Class - Freestanding Garden Panels

Beginners Stained Glass Class - Freestanding Garden Panels Make your own garden glass art in just one day! "Today we cleaned our beautiful artworks and they have been given pride of place in the garden - in today's sunshine they looked particularly impressive! I still can't quite believe that such lovely items can be produced in such a short timeframe." - Julia Our one-day introduction to this modern method of combining leaded stained glass with zinc construction will give you a grounding in the essential techniques, plenty of hands-on experience with the pro-grade tools we use, and you'll take your garden panel home at the end of the day! We call this class our 'Freestanding Garden Panel' class - you'll make a weatherproof stained glass panel around 80cm tall you can show off in your garden, or display indoors! This class is suitable for complete beginners! We'll introduce you to all the key techniques and tools used in this modern method of constructing glass art using zinc and lead. This alternative way to creating stained glass results in a panel that will support itself, needing no frame. As this class demands more strength in hands and wrists, we recommend the foiling beginners class to those with limited strength or control. We start out by demonstrating how we score and break glass. You'll then practice cutting glass to a design until you're ready to start cutting the coloured glass for your main project. This will take us up to lunchtime, and a break for some fresh air! In the afternoon, you'll work on your project piece which you'll finish in time to take home! We'll demonstrate the skills and tools required for each stage and point out common difficulties. You'll then build your panel with the coloured glass you've just cut. What attendees have said about our classes: "V Enjoyable and a clear achievement at the end of the day." "Many thanks to you both for a fantastic course on Sunday, tired but we both enjoyed it. Food was great and the tuition very clear." "I loved how energetic and enthusiastic Mike & Jenny were with us and about the subject.." "Well structured and logical day. Loved it. Fun and productive." "Your passion for the subject really shone through and your professionalism in guiding us in all the task was amazing."

Sadly not - due to the nature of the materials our classes are for adults only.

With all one-day and longer stained glass classes we include an info pack with details of the tools you've used and suppliers plus reminders of techniques used. This isn't included in half-day classes.
We'll be delighted to help you decided what's needed.

For fusing classes we're happy to advise on tools, materials and kilns on request.

Materials are included in all beginners classes - fusing and stained glass.
Please bring reading glasses if you use them, and sturdy fully enclosed shoes (no sandals).
Aprons, googles and gloves are provided where needed.

Because you will be using lead and solder containing lead on stained glass classes.
Lead is known to pose a higher risk to babies than to adults.

We welcome participating friends or partners.
Sadly there isn't room at most classes for non-participating friends or partners.

Of course!
Fused glass will need to be collected after firing - we will contact you when ready.

This depends on which class you're planning to book.
For stained glass classes - it will be difficult to complete the class if you have severe arthritis or similar.

For fused glass classes - we suggest you choose a class which doesn't involve glass cutting - feel free to contact us to discuss.

If the class you're planning to book is described as 'for beginners' then yes!
Some of our classes are for improvers - these are described as such in the listing.

We have GF and Vegan biscuits in stock normally.
We will bring in non-dairy milk if advised in advance.

Lunches, where included, are provided by the Bell Cafe nearby which caters for intolerances, vegetarians and vegans.

Yes - plenty!
