Description

Crochet lessons with Sarah in Darlington, County Durham. Whether you’re completely new or looking to reconnect with a creative hobby, my one-to-one lessons are designed to help you learn at your own pace. Why crochet & mindfulness work together: crochet isn’t just a craft or a hobby, it can also be a meditative practice. - Crochet Calms the Mind The rhythmic motion of your hook and the sensory feel of the yarn can lower stress and anxiety, giving your brain a much-needed break from the day-to-day noise. - Lifts Your Mood A global study found that most crocheters feel happier, calmer, and more useful after creating something with yarn. Pairing it with your Journey Journal lets you capture these uplifting moments and reflect on them later. - Supports Emotional Healing Crochet’s meditative rhythm helps process difficult feelings. Writing in the Journey Journal afterwards provides a safe, mindful space to explore your thoughts and emotions. - Promotes Better Sleep Mindful stitches before bed relax your body and mind. Journaling your reflections can extend that calm, making it easier to unwind. - Keeps Your Brain Sharp Crocheting challenges both your hands and your mind, supporting fine motor skills and cognitive health. - Encourages Mindfulness Focusing on stitches, loops, and textures keeps you fully present. Recording your thoughts in the Journey Journal enhances this mindfulness, turning each crochet session into a grounding, restorative ritual. Your session will include: - An explanation about your bundle contents. - You will learn about yarn labels, yarn types, hook types and sizes. - How to hold the hook and yarn. - How to read a pattern. - Understanding UK and US crochet terms. - Understanding what this means - right now it may look like nonsense but after your sessions you will know exactly what this means: ch 4, join to first stitch, ch 3 (counts as first double crochet), dc 2 in space ch 1, (dc3, ch1) repeat x 3, ss to top of first ch. Total 12 dc, 4 ch. - Understanding a crochet chart. - Step-by-step stitch tutorial. - How to chain, make a single crochet, a double crochet and a slip stitch. - How to crochet a granny square. Once you have learned the basic stitches and feel confident in these we will move on to making a continuous Granny Square Blanket. I will teach you how to change yarn colours, add a border and final touches Refreshments are included (thank goodness!) tea, coffee, decaf, hot chocolate, and biscuits to help to make your time feel more relaxed and enjoyable. If you are booking in for 6 hours in one day please bring lunch. Before your session, you’ll complete a pre-session questionnaire to discuss accessibility, mental health considerations, and dietary requirements, ensuring your lesson is fully supportive and tailored to your needs.
