Description

Imagine your perfect pair of sandals and then make them in this introduction to shoe making. You will be provided with a back strap pattern and then you’ll get to design your own front strap under guided tuition. Learn about what works and what doesn’t so you can get a great fit on your unique feet. We don’t use shoe lasts which means we can work around all shapes and sizes to create something really unique and bespoke. The best thing about this workshop is that you will leave with all the skills to make sandals again at home using easily accessible tools and equipment. There will be a minimum of 3 colours available in either vegetable tanned or chrome tanned leather. Sustainability is a very important part of Smug Soles so I only use vegetable tanned leather which is kinder to the environment or chrome tanned leather which is sustainably sourced or industrial waste destined for landfill. Waste is kept to a minimum and offcuts are used for smaller products like keyrings and earrings. This is a beginner shoe making class so no previous experience is necessary. It is however a full on day that requires concentration throughout. Please be prepared to be challenged!

The Smug Soles Co. was set up by Nia in 2017 to introduce makers to the joy of making simple sandals that fit your feet. The workshop experience is built on the idea of unique, sustainable and experimental making. Smug Soles believes sustainability should come as standard and not as an inconvenient add-on for companies and we do our best to offer the most sustainable options available, whilst still ensuring you have a great experience.
