Absolute Beginners Ring Wax Carving Workshop

The rings when they first come back from casting.
X

Description

This workshop will teach you all of the basic skills you need to be able to carve a piece of ring wax, which will then be cast in silver.

In three hours, we will size the ring so it fits you and play with a number of tools and techniques to make something you really love. We’ll go through all of the equipment you’ll need to create your one-of-a-kind piece, touch on health and safety, and I’ll be there to answer any and all of your questions. Before you leave, we'll discuss how you'd like your ring to be finished: whether you'd like it polished or matte.

A few weeks wait is necessary to allow plenty of time for your ring to be posted off to be cast (turned into silver) and make it back again. I don’t currently have the facilities onsite to do this myself, so a trustworthy third party is taking on this role instead.

When it returns, I will finish it up according to our discussion and we can arrange postage/delivery/collection of your new piece.

If the given dates don’t work for you, please contact me and we’ll see if we can work something out.

If you'd like to do an additional session and learn how to finish up the ring yourself, let me know and we can organise that too.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

Enough wax, tools and silver to create a ring. You just have to bring your lovely self and wear some clothes you don't mind getting mucky!

I had done one course of wax carving prior to doing this course.
I really enjoyed it and would certainly consider booking another session.
It would be suitable for total beginners or someone with a little bit of experience like me.
Would definitely do some research before you go as it’s better to go with a fairly clear idea of what you might like to make.
Emily is really nice, makes you feel very welcome, seems very knowledgeable and is super approachable.
Would certainly recommend and would very likely go again myself.
Very fair value for money too, similar costing in comparison to other courses I’ve done.

I went in with a desire to make a ring as a Christmas present for my mother and was overwhelmed, in the best way possible, by how much I learned and how much I enjoyed myself. Emily Smith is a fantastic teacher and helped me shape my ring into an even better design than I had imagined. I had no prior experience in regards to jewellery before but that proved to be no problem at all as it was easy to learn and found myself enjoying every aspect of the ring making process, and was given total freedom to create with expert and educational supervision. I will be recommending this experience to anyone with an interest in jewellery, or who wish for an enjoyable and educational experience with beautiful results!

Response from The Metalsmith:

Such a lovely review, thank you very much! It was my pleasure; I hope your mum loves her gift!
