Description

Beginners Stained Glass Evening Class - Foiling (aka. Tiffany) or Leading or 3d Foiling - Learn to design and create stained glass in 6 evenings. "A really well planned and researched class, a great learning experience!" - Cate Our 6 / 7 session evening course is a beginner's introduction to stained glass construction - either foiling, leading or even 3d copper foiling. The course will give you technical skills and design concepts to allow you to develop your own ideas and make pieces of stained glass under your own steam. This course builds on the structure of our one-day beginner's class, adding a design skills session at the start, and time spent finishing and preparing your piece for display in the final session. With a maximum of 6 students and two tutors you can be sure of plenty of attention and guidance throughout the class. 6 or 7 evenings - copper foiling or leading stained glass beginners class for up to 5 people The course structure loosely allocates one evening to each of the key stages. If your work progresses more quickly that's fine - the course allows for flexibility! If not, we can add an extra session to finish your project. Session 1 - designing your piece, maximum size 350x250mm approx with our guidance. We'll ask you to send us a sketch (or you can call in to the gallery!) of your design in advance. Or you can use one of our designs of course. Session 2 & 3 - cutting the coloured glass for your design. We'll give you some glass cutting exercises to complete once we've taught you the basics and then you'll cut the glass for your project. Session 4 - grinding your pieces of glass to fit your design accurately. We'll show you how to work methodically, for the best fit, and the neatest end result. Session 5 - foiling or leading each piece of glass. We include a short presentation on the origins of this method of stained glass in this session, time permitting. Session 6 - soldering your project. We'll give you a soldering masterclass with a practice project as well as coaching you in getting a good finish on your main project. We'll also look at displaying your piece, soldering loops on, the use of patina chemicals and review your progress. Optional 7th Session (small additional charge may apply) - finishing off your project where extra time is needed. Optional discussion on setting up a home studio if required. Throughout the course we'll add in some of the history of glass making and stained glass for your interest. We have created this course structure to allow for flexibility because we all work at different rates. Our aim is for you to enjoy the course, learn more about making stained glass than our 1-day class can include and take home a beautiful piece of stained glass of your own design! What attendees have said about our classes: "Brilliant, totally enjoyable and easy to follow instruction " "Great day….extremely satisfied with terrific teachers who were tremendous. Thanks Guys!"
