6 Week Stained Glass Evening Course - Leading or Foiling or 3d

Beginners Stained Glass Evening Class - Foiling (aka. Tiffany) or Leading or 3d Foiling - Learn to design and create stained glass in 6 evenings. "A really well planned and researched class, a great learning experience!" - Cate Our 6 / 7 session evening course is a beginner's introduction to stained glass construction - either foiling, leading or even 3d copper foiling. The course will give you technical skills and design concepts to allow you to develop your own ideas and make pieces of stained glass under your own steam. This course builds on the structure of our one-day beginner's class, adding a design skills session at the start, and time spent finishing and preparing your piece for display in the final session. With a maximum of 6 students and two tutors you can be sure of plenty of attention and guidance throughout the class. 6 or 7 evenings - copper foiling or leading stained glass beginners class for up to 5 people The course structure loosely allocates one evening to each of the key stages. If your work progresses more quickly that's fine - the course allows for flexibility! If not, we can add an extra session to finish your project. Session 1 - designing your piece, maximum size 350x250mm approx with our guidance. We'll ask you to send us a sketch (or you can call in to the gallery!) of your design in advance. Or you can use one of our designs of course. Session 2 & 3 - cutting the coloured glass for your design. We'll give you some glass cutting exercises to complete once we've taught you the basics and then you'll cut the glass for your project. Session 4 - grinding your pieces of glass to fit your design accurately. We'll show you how to work methodically, for the best fit, and the neatest end result. Session 5 - foiling or leading each piece of glass. We include a short presentation on the origins of this method of stained glass in this session, time permitting. Session 6 - soldering your project. We'll give you a soldering masterclass with a practice project as well as coaching you in getting a good finish on your main project. We'll also look at displaying your piece, soldering loops on, the use of patina chemicals and review your progress. Optional 7th Session (small additional charge may apply) - finishing off your project where extra time is needed. Optional discussion on setting up a home studio if required. Throughout the course we'll add in some of the history of glass making and stained glass for your interest. We have created this course structure to allow for flexibility because we all work at different rates. Our aim is for you to enjoy the course, learn more about making stained glass than our 1-day class can include and take home a beautiful piece of stained glass of your own design! What attendees have said about our classes: "Brilliant, totally enjoyable and easy to follow instruction " "Great day….extremely satisfied with terrific teachers who were tremendous. Thanks Guys!" Sadly not - due to the nature of the materials our classes are for adults only.

With all one-day and longer stained glass classes we include an info pack with details of the tools you've used and suppliers plus reminders of techniques used. This isn't included in half-day classes.
We'll be delighted to help you decided what's needed.

For fusing classes we're happy to advise on tools, materials and kilns on request.

Materials are included in all beginners classes - fusing and stained glass.
Please bring reading glasses if you use them, and sturdy fully enclosed shoes (no sandals).
Aprons, googles and gloves are provided where needed.

Because you will be using lead and solder containing lead on stained glass classes.
Lead is known to pose a higher risk to babies than to adults.

We welcome participating friends or partners.
Sadly there isn't room at most classes for non-participating friends or partners.

Of course!
Fused glass will need to be collected after firing - we will contact you when ready.

This depends on which class you're planning to book.
For stained glass classes - it will be difficult to complete the class if you have severe arthritis or similar.

For fused glass classes - we suggest you choose a class which doesn't involve glass cutting - feel free to contact us to discuss.

If the class you're planning to book is described as 'for beginners' then yes!
Some of our classes are for improvers - these are described as such in the listing.

We have GF and Vegan biscuits in stock normally.
We will bring in non-dairy milk if advised in advance.

Lunches, where included, are provided by the Bell Cafe nearby which caters for intolerances, vegetarians and vegans.

Yes - plenty!
