Description

Our 3-Week Wheel Throwing Course is perfect for anyone who is a complete beginner to working with clay and is interested in learning how to throw their own pots, or anyone who has been working with slab building and is looking to expand their clay skills. The course costs £185 and not only includes 6 hours of expert tuition from our lovely ceramics teacher Andrea but also a set of tools, a bag of clay and the opportunity to take home a wheel to practise on in between classes. The wheel is literally yours to take home and practice on as much as you like before returning it back to The Studio at the final class. During your first class Andrea will take you through the basic skills needed to throw on the wheel, such as clay preparation, centring the clay and pulling up a cylindrical shape (a key part of throwing as this is the basis for all wheel thrown ceramic pieces). In the second lesson we will revisit all of these techniques, in addition to learning how to 'turn' the bottom of your pots. For the final lesson we refine and grow on your existing throwing skills; addressing any issues that you have encountered and sharing tips on how to overcome them. Andrea will also teach you how to make useful additions to your pieces, such as adding handles and lips, to change your pots into mugs or jugs. Included in the price of this course is also the opportunity to have 6 of the pots you have made during the course clear glazed and fired. Before you book this class please note that you will need to come and collect your pieces of work at a later date. Sadly we are not able to post pieces of pottery out. Pots will be kept for one term only and after that time they will be disposed of to make room for other people’s work. These sessions will be held in our Studio in Holmer Green and limited to a maximum of 6 people to ensure that everyone gets the benefit of our teacher's time and expertise.
