Description

The Two Day Knife / dagger Making Class This class is designed to give you more time to dedicate to forging your own unique knife, be it a fully functional chef’s knife or your own one-of-a-kind dagger. The professionals will be on hand to guide you through the process of blade making and heat treatment at Phoenix Forge. On day one, we start out with a simple warm up exercise to get you familiar with the tools and used to working with the forge, after a cuppa we get started on forging a true working knife. The first day of the class is spent forging out the knife blank and bolsters, if you are making a dagger, we also forge a pommel. Day two is spent grinding and shaping the blade to a functional geometry suitable for a working blade, we also refine the other components ready for fitting together, after lunch we heat treat the steel and then fully assemble the knife using a range of traditional and modern techniques. On the course we go from selecting the right type of tool steel in to forging a rough blade shape out, then the shape is refined by grinding on the bevels using professional 2x72 linishers. From there we demonstrate how to heat treat to achieve the correct Rockwell hardness. We finish up by riveting and gluing the handles on, so each participant has a full functional knife to take home with them. There is an opportunity to purchase pattern welded blanks for an extra fee to make your own Damascus knife on the class. The class is for over 18’s only or for under 18's accompanied by a legal guardian.
