Description
Our Friday morning upholstery courses are made up of six weekly classes from 9.30am to 1pm each week. Each course provides a total of 21 hours of tuition with a fully qualified AMUSF upholsterer and use of upholstery tools and materials. Our group sizes are kept quite small, allowing plenty of contact time with your tutor and ensuring each student progresses well with their projects. Tutor: Jillian Humphrey, AMUSF Our classes are suitable for the complete beginner as well as improvers. Students work on their own projects and are expected to bring a piece of furniture to work on. We can advise on the suitability of individual projects and full details of what to expect, and what is included, will be sent out on booking or request. The types of project suitable for the complete beginner would be a footstool/piano stool, dining chair, armless, or fireside chair. They can be modern or antique, depending upon what you’d like to have a go at. We teach both modern and traditional upholstery techniques. Please remember that the more complicated a project, the more time will be needed to complete a piece. Learning upholstery skills and techniques can be tremendous fun as well as a lot of hard work, but the thrill of restoring an old chair and turning it into a beautiful, functional and even artistic creation can be extremely rewarding! We have a passion for upholstering and we like to think that all of our students end up sharing this passion…We run courses throughout the year and publish new dates regularly, so if you can’t make these dates you might find other dates in our programme which are more suitable. If you have any questions before you decide to book onto one of our courses please use the "message the tutor" button on this page. We look forward to welcoming you to our Pretty Sitting Upholstery workshop in the heart of the Mendip Hills.
