Wood Carving Workshop - One Day

X

Description

The traditional craft of Wood Carving dates back thousands of years, from when we first learned to make sharp tools. This one-day course is suitable for those starting out, and also for carvers who would like to develop their skills further. For beginners, the day starts with the introduction of the tools and the techniques and materials used for making a wood carving by hand. This will be followed by a small carving project to become familiar with the basic skills and then, after lunch, you will move on to a new project that involves creating a larger relief carving. The day is run in a very flexible format and allows for more experienced carvers to develop their skills under the guidance of Pete. The course is limited to just five participants. Teenagers from 16+ are welcome to take part in this course but must be supervised by an adult. If you have any mobility issues please contact the team to discuss further. The course tutor for the day is Peter Schwartz, a carver who has been teaching and working in the local area for over 30 years. As well as running courses, Pete also makes many bespoke items, such as village signs, one off carvings, and garden furniture. The course will take place in our Traditional Barn at Stanwick Lakes, a beautiful 750-acre nature reserve and visitor attraction in the heart of Northamptonshire’s Nene Valley.
