Description

2-day batik workshop (one evening and two full days). Friday Introduction evening 7 pm Saturday 10 am - 4.30 pm Sunday 10 am - 4 pm Spend an inspiring weekend learning the ancient art of batik and create your own unique batik paintings. Set at Moor and Sea Holidays on Exmoor, surrounded by stunning views and only five minutes drive from the sea. With tutor Jo Whiteland's more than 20 years experience of working as a batik artist alongside teaching batik to adults and children, this weekend course is suitable for both complete beginners and those with some experience. Friday - There will be an introductory talk and design evening on Friday at 7pm with wine and nibbles. Jo introduces with the history of batik and describes how she produces her Batik paintings (techniques we will then be using over the weekend). There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss individual projects ready for the next day. Jo will bring plenty of designs for you to choose from, and you can create your own designs too! Or find inspiration from our beautiful setting at Moor and Sea. Saturday - for those new to Batik, we will be going through the stages from design to producing a simple 2 - 3 layer Batik by applying wax as a resist and painting on silk paints, before dipping into a dye bath to create the characteristic batik effect. You will also have time to start your next piece. For those who already have experience of Batik we can work on potentially more complex layering as well. Sunday - an opportunity to hone your skills on your second batik painting, as well as starting a third if you have time. There will also be time to iron the wax out of the paintings and a discussion on how to finish your work.
