Spinning Wool on a Spinning Wheel - Individual Tuition
Description
Hand spinning tuition from my rural workshop just outside the Exmoor town of Wiveliscome. Join me to explore natural fibres and learn to spin fleeces from my flock of rare breed sheep. Using a spinning wheel, learn to spin, ply and finish your very own yarn. We will also explore plant fibres and learn about the sheep breeds and sustainability. The course includes fleece from my high welfare, blade shorn flock, as well as a chance to meet the sheep. You can choose a single day if you have some experience or you want to concentrate on the spinning only, or two days if you are a beginner and want to learn how to process a raw fleece into yarn, how to select and wash fleeces, the different breed types and have more time to practice your new skills. If you have specific dates in mind or have any other queries please get in touch via the 'message the tutor' button. As I teach elsewhere it is best to contact me to see if the dates you are interested in are free; I can teach on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, or with a bit of notice other days of the week.

Maker
The Woven Briar is my weaving workshop based in the rolling hills on the edge of Exmoor. Using blade shorn fleeces from my flock and harvested or foraged plant materials, I create textiles and craft materials that are fully traceable and sustainable. I offer tuition in my workshop in Ford as well as a social spinning group in Wiveliscombe. I have a flock of rare breed sheep which I keep for their beautiful and versatile fleeces, blade shorn to improve the length of fibre and the welfare of the animal. I wash, spin and weave the wool into beautiful one of a kind pieces right here on the farm, creating 100% natural, biodegradable, sustainable pieces in tune with the seasons. I also send fleeces to a fibre mill just an hour from our fields, to be made in to sliver and yarn, suitable for felting and spinning. All of our animals are grass-fed, well cared for with the highest regard for their welfare and health.
