Description

Half day needle felting workshop Aberford Village Hall is approx 30 mins drive from Harrogate, York and Leeds with free roadside parking just outside the venue. Relax, unwind and create… In this relaxed workshop you will be taught the needle felting method to create your own felt landscape. On the needle felting workshop Bring along your favourite landscape* and learn how to needle felt it onto a piece of material (approx 18 x 18cm) to take home and frame. This will be an introduction to needle felting* – which is a dry felting technique. I will be giving step by step instructions and individual help during the workshop so this workshop is perfect for beginners. You can work sat down for the duration of this workshop. It’s a very relaxing and mindful craft. *Finish Time: Since each person is working on their own landscape at their own pace, it’s possible to finish a simpler landscape within 3 hours (1pm ish). However, if you prefer a more leisurely day, you can take your time, enjoy a half-hour lunch break from the cafe, and the workshop will conclude at 2pm. Needle felting* is not sewing. Needle felting uses a special barbed needle and you stab pieces of wool fibres into the background material. It is easy to do and also very therapeutic (as long as you don’t stab your fingers!). Images of landscapes to work from will be provided, however I’d love you to bring your own too. Is there a special landscape you’d like to create, somewhere you have been on holiday or as a child? Ideally this should be mainly landscape (ideally: no buildings, animals or people/ although you can just miss them out) and I’ll take you through step by step how to transform it into felt. Feel free to bring as many images as you like and I can help you choose the right one.

My work combines my training in painting with the ancient art of felt-making to celebrate and bring together the different skills of wet felting, needle felting and hand sewing. I uses wool to ‘paint’ with, needle felting to refine the detail and hand sewing for extra texture. I have a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, P.G.C.E. in Secondary Art Education. I teach felt making workshops in Aberford which has free roadside parking and is within 30 minutes drive of Leeds, Harrogate and York.
