Description

The aim of this course is to teach you how to use a spinning wheel or drop spindle to spin a 2-ply yarn from raw fleece or prepared fibres, over two days. It's is held in my studio either using one of my wheels or bring your own. By the end of the day you should have a small 2-ply hank of yarn to take away with you. You will learn how to choose a good fleece or good quality fibre, how to prepare it for spinning using a pair of hand carders, how to spin it into a thin or thick yarn. You will then ply together two small bobbins of your yarn and you will learn how to wash it and prepare it ready to use for knitting or weaving or other craft. Come and have a fun day out. Currently I am offering individual tuition only unless you wish to come with another family member. so you'll get plenty of attention and help. All workshops are held in my studio. At the end of the day you can buy equipment and materials to carry on spinning at home. I am an Ashford dealer, selling spinning and weaving equipment as well as a small range of silk and wool fibres and cotton yarns.

What's included in the price?

A light lunch will be provided together with refreshments and home-made scones. There's no additional charge for equipment and materials used during the course. If you've been to one of my workshops before please will you leave a review. I look forward to seeing you again.

Maker

I love colour and texture and using my own hand-dyed, hand-spun yarns from natural fibres, local sheep and alpaca fleece, to create my weavings. In 1988 having been spinning for about 5 years I gained a post-graduate Diploma in Handloom, Weaving, Spinning and Dyeing at Bradford University and have been running Textile workshops for the last 25 years.
