Description

Welcome to the Spinning Barn! Have you ever watched a hand spinner happily spinning soft wool into gorgeous yarns and yearned to give it a go, or felt that your knitting, crochet or weaving could be even more creative if you could spin your own yarns? Then this workshop is for you. If you have spun before and want to re-visit a forgotten skill then here is the chance to fulfil it straight away to achieve the yarns you have longed for. Our one day Hand Spinning For All workshop is designed to teach absolute beginners the skills needed to produce their own fabulous yarns or the more experienced spinners how to perfect their spinning skills to create the yarn needed for every project. The workshops are intentionally small with a maximum of five spinners so you can be assured of receiving lots of individual attention throughout your day What you will learn: If you are a new spinner you will learn all about how spinning wheels work and try different styles of wheel to help inform your purchasing decisions later and ensure your comfort on the day. The workshop will focus on creating a thorough understanding of every element of hand spinning including spinning and plying with every element being broken down into smaller achievable parts to aid your understanding so that you can gradually build on each of those skills to create your own beautiful hand spun skein of yarn to take home. If you are an experienced spinner you may be looking to expand your current skills or solve a technical problem you may have. You may like to learn how to create yarns of various weights eg DK, Aran, Lace weight, Chunky etc and all of that can be achieved too. At the time of booking you will be asked to share your spinning experience and a bit about what it is you personally would like to focus on during the day. PLEASE NOTE - Art Yarns are not taught during this workshop but in separate events All equipment is available for you to use or you may bring your own if you prefer. I supply as much fibre as you need to complete your project on the day. Fun and friendship is guaranteed! NOTE: All refreshments are provided including home-made cakes, fresh fruit and beverages but please bring your own packed lunch. IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES PLEASE MAKE ME AWARE AT THE TIME OF BOOKING. Fleeces, ready carded fibres and equipment are available to buy on the day or from our online shop so you can continue your spinning as soon as you get home. Travel links are good from most major routes including by rail and road.
