Deer Skin Tanning and Making a Leather Belt Pouch - Jessie Watson Brown
Description
Deer skin tanning and making a leather belt pouch. On this course we will spend a day learning about how to make leather from deer skin, starting with removing the hair from a fresh hide and finishing the day with you softening and oiling your piece of leather which will become your belt pouch. We will be doing the ancient art of Bark tanning to make leather, a completely natural process. (The tanning process is much longer than 1 day, so we will be showing every stage and also producing some stages that we ‘prepared earlier!’) You will learn the fundamentals of bark tanning a skin which you can apply to future tanning projects back home. On day 2 we will spend the day sewing and creating a beautiful belt pouch from your leather. You will learn sewing and lacing techniques to craft a long-lasting, durable item to take home. Pouch approx 17 x 14cm.
