Build a Bowl-Turning Pole Lathe with Geoff Hannis
Description
Spend the weekend building your own flat-pack pole lathe with Geoff Hannis & Holly Lush. From a pile of logs, plus some pre-prepared pieces we'll: Day 1 - Drill the holes for the legs and uprights in the pre-hollowed bed. - Make the wedge holes and wedges in the pre-cut poppets. - Insert and glue the centres. - Make the legs and uprights, both from logs and also pre-prepared material. Day 2 - Finish the legs and uprights. - Assemble the lathe, wedge the legs, and level the lathe at the right height. - Make the toolrest an toolrest holder. - Make a rudimentary pedal with guidance on how to make more complex designs. - Tune the lathe for each user. Some of the pieces of wood are pre-prepared to ensure that whatever people's skills, everyone finishes with a functioning lathe. There is time built in at the end of the second day, to ensure that each lathe is tuned to each user. The days will be physically demanding so you’ll need a practical level of fitness or a good level of stamina!
