Description

This is a full day course teaching the basics of silver clay. It is aimed at beginners or those that want to refresh their knowledge. Students are taught everything they need to go away and start making their own silver jewellery from silver clay. What is Silver Clay? Silver clay is reclaimed silver, ground to a fine powder and combined with an organic binder and water. After shaping it is dried then fired by one of three methods, gas hob, butane torch or kiln. The binder burns off and you are left with pure silver, which is of hallmark quality. You will be shown all the techniques required including handling, texturing, shaping, how to store your silver clay and what to do if it starts to dry out and so much more. We will go through the basic toolkit you will need. At the end of the day students will take home several pieces of beautiful handmade jewellery, depending on size, and the new skills required so they can continue to make their own jewellery at home. The class size is kept small so you will get plenty of personal attention and they are run in Marianne's well equipped studio.
