Maker's bio

StitchwithKate has been a dream of mine for a number of years. Over the 2020 lockdown I was able to put more time into sewing and as a result I began to tentatively share, through local artisan markets, sewn items that I had made. 3 years further down the line and this idea has progressed and I have decided that the time has come to make sewing more than just a hobby of mine! As a result, I have become a part time teacher and am now working hard to establish StitchwithKate as a business. The vision is that of teaching people to sew. I am a teacher through and through but with a passion for sewing that I would love to share. I believe that absolutely ANYONE who wants to learn to sew CAN. I have had children as young as two effectively using a needle and the results are both heart warming and empowering. Too many times I have heard the phrases; “I can’t sew.” “I have a sewing machine but no idea how to use it.” “I don’t have the patience for that.” and my favourite… “Kate, can you sew this button back on for me?” The answer to the latter; “No, I can’t, but I can teach you how to do it!” I have created an ever expanding mix of instructed kits and in person workshops to help me achieve my goal. You can find these here and over on my website. For insights into what is up and coming why not visit my Instagram page StitchwithKate2. I am also able to offer bespoke workshops to groups so if you are, for example, in Scouting or Guiding, a member of the WI, a school seeking curriculum enrichment or an individual looking for a unique party experience for a special occasion please do get in touch. Sewing is both mindful and creative in nature and I hope as a result that you will become as enchanted as I am by the humble sewing needle. Happy stitching, Kate

Carole reviewed: Santa Tree Topper Sewing Machine Workshop Beginner/Intermediate

"Dear Kate, My sister and I really enjoyed your Santa Tree Topper Sewing Machine Workshop. We both learnt new skills in a fun environment with very clear instruction. It was lovely to have a choice of fabric to make our santa unique. The instructions and step by step demonstrations were clear and easy to follow. The working environment was comfortable and well heated on a frosty day and the refreshments supplied very welcome. We really appreciate that you allowed us the extra time to finish as we had been a bit slow. You clearly worked very hard to make our day special, especially as it was a Birthday treat for my sister. We came away with two santas each and now one is sitting on top of my tree ready for Christmas. Wishing you good luck with all your workshops and hope to see you at another one soon. Merry Christmas and thank you from Carole and Susan"

StitchwithKate responded:

"Dear Carole and Susan, Thank you so much for your wonderfully kind review! It was an absolute pleasure to run a workshop for you both. You were brilliant students and I thoroughly enjoyed our session. I am very pleased to hear that Santa has taken pride of place at the top of your tree, with the hard work you put into making him it is exactly where he should be! I very much hope to see you both again in the future. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and the very best for 2024. Thank you and warmest wishes, Kate "
