Description
This is a 5-week course. We meet once a week and each class lasts 3 hours. Classes meet Tuesday or Thursday evening or Wednesday afternoons. Through 4 or 5 projects, you will learn how to make pinch, coil, and slab pots. In the process, you will work with templates, clay tools, rollers and stamps. You will design your own pot forms and decoration. Pots will be finished with underglazes, slips and glazes. Some see hand-building as the "poor cousin" of throwing on a wheel. Nothing could be further from the truth! Building pots and objects by hand allows for much more personal expression and variety of form. Once the basic techniques are understood, anything can be achieved! I encourage my students to be creative and respect what happens when hand meets clay. All will be fired and ready for collection after the course has ended. Who is the teacher? I’m a professional letter-cutter but studied ceramics at university and have worked extensively with clay. I have offered a variety of crafts classes over the years and have a fully equipped studio that accommodates 6-8 students. The classes are relaxed, friendly and we’ll take a tea break half-way through.

My pottery courses teach both the building and decorative techniques used in hand-built pottery. I lead with a project and students follow along - bringing their own creativity to the piece.. Classes are small (max 7 students) and generally very jolly!
