Textured Textiles Workshop

X

Description

Textiles and embroidery are so tactile and perfect to use when adding texture to create a new dimension to your work. In this creative full day workshop you’ll explore different hand embroidery stitches and techniques to add texture in to textiles including creating and removing layers, using unusual materials, combining materials, using stitch to create perceived texture, using sandpaper and much more. The morning is dedicated to experimenting with a range of techniques to create a mini series of samples to inspire future artwork. The afternoon is spent putting these new found skills into place and creating a piece of textile art, full of stitch and texture that is unique to you. I'll be there every step of the way to teach and guide you to make a piece of stunning art. By the end of the workshop you will have learnt many ways to add texture to textiles, have a series of mini samples and a piece of beautiful, unique artwork. The workshop is suitable for people of all levels of embroidery experience from the complete beginner to the more accomplished embroiderer. All of my workshops are designed to teach new skills as well as to develop creative confidence. They are welcoming to everyone, with a relaxed, informative and inspiring atmosphere. I have a flexible approach to teaching, allowing participants to follow their own interests and develop work that they can be proud of. I work with each person individually to ensure that they are developing the skills needed to realise their project – and if you have no idea what you want to do I’ll help with that too! I truly believe that art is all about expressing yourself and this is what I encourage you to do. I’ll have lots of samples to inspire you, but always support you to make your own work – after all who needs several pieces of art that are all exactly the same! I’ve taught workshops in this way for many years and people always surprise themselves with what they can achieve. The workshop will be held at the Community Hall (Theatre) Saltburn by the Sea from 10.30-3.30. There is on road parking available; this isn’t allocated and so you may have a short walk to the venue. I’ll send directions of how to find the room and suggested places to park nearer to the workshop.

I am a textile artist, tutor and community arts practitioner. I live on the North East Coast and work from my studio and gallery in Saltburn by the Sea. My artwork is inspired by people; their relationships and memories - I am to create a snapshot in time. I have taught a range of workshops for many years. My aim is for students to leave with a wealth of new knowledge, having created something unique to them. Workshops focus on exploration, experimenting with techniques and having fun.
