Stained Glass Christmas Tea light workshop - Full Day

X

Description

Come and enjoy some festive glass fun. Learn how to make a Christmas themed sun catcher/tea light using the copper foil technique and one of the 4 designs, or if you are not feeling festive make one of the many suncatcher designs. The copper foiled or ‘Tiffany technique’, was developed in the US by Louis Comfort Tiffany, one of the pioneers in the Arts and Crafts movement, in the late 1800’s. This method of wrapping the edges of the glass in a self adhesive copper tape became popular, as you need less specialist equipment than you would for traditional leadwork or fused glass. You are also not restricted by lead came so you can make more intricate patterns, panels, suncatchers or 3D forms. You may be familiar with Tiffany lampshades? These are constructed using copper foil and solder. Copper foil work is suitable for interior decorations. During this special Christmas themed course you will be able to select from one of four predesigned glass templates to create a tea light to take home and pop on the window sill to catch the sun by day and light with a candle in the evening. You don’t need any experience in working with glass as I will take you through each step of the process from learning to select your glass, How to cut and grind the edges, foil, flux, then solder, clean and finish your work. Your day will be fun and relaxed with a maximum of 6 students. If you have already tried this technique and want a refresher then this day is also perfect for you. At the venue, there is some parking on the road outside the chapel or just around the corner on High street. The nearest train station is Bursledon which is served by trains on the Southampton - Portsmouth line, just 10 mins walk away.
