Harvesting wood in the Forest & Spoon carving

You will be heading into the forest on the hunt for the the best wood for different types of spoons. After you have harvested your spoon wood you will be shown how to bring your spoon to life with expert tuition from Wooden Tom, you will be guided to safely use hand tools such as a knife and axe to create your own Highlands kuksa cup or whisky quaich to take home. This is a great course to learn many of the grounding skills in one day which are transferable on to other carving projects. Skills learned Using an axe to accurately cleave wood Correct use of the carving axe to rough out the shape of your spoon Safe use and cutting techniques with the carving knife and gouge Tools used Carving axe Saw Carving knife bent knife Mallet All courses are held in beautiful oak woodlands on the Inshriach estate, just outside of Aviemore. All materials and tools are supplied. Though we never expect mishaps, Wooden Tom is First Aid trained and holds full Public Liability Insurance.
