This full day class is ideal for beginners who are interested in learning how to make real silver jewellery with this amazing new creative clay! The class will cover how to plan, create, fire and finish simple jewellery designs in real silver. In this 6.5h workshop (which includes 1 hour for a lunch break) expect to make two or three items such as a pair of earrings and a pendant or charms for a bracelet and a necklace. Everything will be ready to wear by the end of the day and you’ll feel confident to continue working with silver clay to create your own designs at home. We’ll cover all the key techniques of planning, rolling, shaping, design and decoration as well as polishing and making up your finished pieces. We’ll also look at how easy it is to fire the clay at home – you don’t need a kiln. I will talk you through every stage, step by step with lots of demos and tips for silver success! It will be a fun day with plenty of time to experiment and get creative with silver clay. By the end of the workshop, you will have learnt: 1. How silver clay is made and where it comes from. 2. The importance of planning your design. 3. How to create simple designs using everyday items and a few basic tools. 4. How to fire the clay at home. It takes just a few minutes and you don’t need a kiln. 5. Polishing and finishing your designs to a professional standard. 6. The next steps to continue your silver clay adventure! There will be time to pause for some lunch, please bring a light lunch with you. A small range of books, tools, chains and jewellery fittings will be available to buy for your own future use, but all other materials will be provided. Prices approx. £2.50 – £15.00 You will get to go home with two or three finished pieces that will be ready to wear by the end of the day and a lovely jewellery box, to keep the jewellery you’ve made safe. Melanie Blaikie has been teaching creative workshops since 2003. She is the author of ‘Silver Clay Workshop: getting started with silver clay jewellery’ and ‘Rings’ as well as contributing to other jewellery books, magazines and creative publications. Melanie started her career with her dream job – valuing diamonds for DeBeers. Since then, she has designed for Asprey, Garrard and Tiffany’s and continues her love for all things glittery!
