Description

A summers day of stitch with pure silk ribbons. Spend a relaxing day at beautiful Bunbury Mill exploring the traditional art of ribbon embroidery, to stitch a little flower garden into a teacup. Beginners are very welcome, and everything is provided for this hand embroidery workshop. We start by choosing from an array of vintage bone china cups and saucers, matching pure silk ribbons and embroidery threads. The ribbons I supply are hand painted 100% silk. The gentle variations of colour allow for beautiful shading when creating flowers and leaves, creating the subtle effects that are so unique to ribbon embroidery, as is the unique three-dimensional textures they produce. During the morning, I will take you step-by-step through a series of different ribbon embroidery stitches to practice. Following this you will begin a little ribbon garden in a wooden hoop, using the shades you have chosen to match the flowers on your teacup. I will guide you through each stage, completing in the afternoon with padding your ribbon embroidery and attaching it into the teacup. Ribbon embroidery first appeared in France in the 17th Century; it was hugely popular with the aristocracy during the 18th Century. I will supply you with all the information on where I buy my vintage teacups and pure silk ribbons. This is a gentle day of slow stitch, perfect for absolute beginners, I guide you through each part, however, there is plenty of opportunity for experienced stitchers to add extra flowers and work freely.
