Reupholster a Chair Seat

X

Description

In this 3-hour workshop local upholstery expert Heather Breed will be teaching how to reupholster a dining chair with either a drop in seat or a stuff over seat. Think modern drop in seat or chair with a removal seat pad. Throughout the class, Heather will be sharing her expert knowledge on how to breathe new life into tired, old and stained seat pads through the art of upholstery. She will have a selection of fabrics available on the day but if you have some special fabric that matches your decor or you want to use then do feel free to bring it with you. We would recommend that ideally your fabric be upholstery weight so that it is durable. Heather is a fully AMUSF qualified upholsterer and has completed a furniture design diploma course. She worked for a French upholsterer and in two other workshops before setting up her own high successful business. We are thrilled to be able to welcome her to the Where Inspiration Blooms community and have lots of other upholstery classes planned for this year including lampshades, which is also running this Spring. Like us, Heather is keen to keep her classes as sustainable as possible so for your seat pads you will be using a brand new product called springboard ultraflex - which doesn’t have all the nasty fire retardant chemicals found in foam. If you have any of the following tools then please do bring them with you (it's always best to use tools you are familiar with and will use again). We will have spares if you don't have any. scissors a small hammer (tack hammer) pliers wooden mallet tack/staple lifter You will need to take your old fabric and foam away with you after the class, to dispose of at home so please bring a black bag / carrier bag with you to transport it in your car. We would recommend that you take plenty of photos before and during the class as this will really help you with this and future projects.
