Raw Fleece to Living Gotland Sheep Rug

Description

Raw Fleece to Living Gotland Sheep Rug This is a day course working with raw Gotland sheep fleece from our flock of Viking Sheep on our farm in the Blackdown Hills using traditional Scandinavian felting techniques. You will produce a stunning fleece rug that will look beautiful on the floor, or can be used as a throw to keep you wrapped up warm. The course will be from 10am to 4pm, and start with selecting a fleece, with our Gotland sheep ranging from silver through to charcoal grey, then preparing, adding fleece backing, and felting using traditional techniques. Finally you will wash and dry your fleece rug. You will take home your fleece which may still be damp and require further rinsing and drying depending on how you progress during the day. The workshop is for 4 people in our open barn on our individual purpose built felting tables. It is a very rewarding but a physically demanding process which will require strength, patience and fitness as you will be standing outside for most of the day lifting, rolling and felting like a Viking! The process is dirty, wet and messy, so you will need to dress appropriately. Tea, coffee, cake and lunch will be provided. Note: The fleeces naturally contain lanolin so are unsuitable if you have a lanolin allergy.

What's included in the price?

Tee, coffee, cake and light lunch. Raw Gotland fleece from our flock of sheep and all the equipment and material needed for the felting process. You will need to bring a large bucket to carry your fleece home in.
