Description

Our studio is located upstairs in The Green Man Gallery, a not-for-profit community arts hub & Gallery, which is run entirely by hard-working volunteers, including ourselves! Our ceramics & art are for sale in the Gallery, along with other artist's work - please have a browse while you're there! Hot drinks are available in the Gallery. The small classes we offer at Earth Pig Pottery are very flexible and cater for beginners and intermediate throwers. The studio is well-equipped with three wheels, extruder and kiln. Due to the limited space we can accommodate no more than three students at one time. This gives plenty of time for one-to-one guided tuition. Currently we offer sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (though sometimes the days will vary due to other commitments). Beginning throwers will focus on centring the clay and making a basic cylinder, expanding this to other forms based on this, if time allows. The object will be to make a pot that you want to keep. However, if you are only in Buxton for a visit you are still welcome to have a session purely for the experience itself, rather than keeping any pieces made. *Please note: we are unable to post pots to you so, if you wish to keep any, you would need to collect them at a later date after they've been biscuit fired in our kiln. This can take several weeks (or longer!) as clay needs to dry completely before it can be fired (we don't have the luxury of a drying room!) Also the kiln needs to be quite full. * (We're sorry but due to space in the studio, we can only keep uncollected pots for three months). Many students choose to return for a further session to decorate/glaze their pots but this is entirely optional (please note that this would incur additional fees). Students can book sessions from one to three hours. Cost is £35 per person per hour. Please note that the Craft Courses booking robot will default to 11.00am start time. If you would like a different time please specify this in a message to us when you book. For your info: Our studio is on the first floor and access is by stairs only. The studio is unheated & can be very cold so please wrap up! Our very friendly dog will usually be in the studio with us.

What's included in the price?

All materials (clay, decorating slip etc). Use of wheels, tools, aprons and other equipment. Firing of a single pot (extra pots can be left with us and fired at a small cost). A throwing demonstration. Full tuition and guidance.

The Earth Pig Pottery studio is located in The Green Man Gallery, a well-known community art hub in the centre of the bustling market town of Buxton. We have been providing pottery and art lessons in the town for over two years and have great facilities - a studio on the second floor, a large workshop room, gallery and exhibition space on the ground floor with a shop selling ceramics, prints, cards and artwork.
