Description
In this Pottery Throwing Workshop, you'll learn the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel, which includes centring the clay, opening the ball of clay, flattening the base, and pulling the walls up. Designed with complete beginners in mind, this workshop ensures a supportive and enjoyable experience. You'll be starting the process with pre-prepared clay, ready for you to form your pot by pulling up the walls of clay. - Experience the feel of the clay and learn finger movements. - Discover how hands control the shape of the pot. - Utilise tools to shape and trim your creation. This approach helps you to understand what happens when you push the clay too much and how to correct it and how it can't be corrected because it has been overworked or pushed too far. This is an essential part of gaining confidence with the clay and having some fun. When learning to throw on the potter's wheel it requires practise and discipline to continue even when you fail as this is the way to success with it. Once you have done the initial pushing and feeling stage of the process, I then guide you on how to centre the clay, open the ball up and get to the stage where you pull the walls up, which will be familiar to you now, you now create the pot you will keep to be fired and glazed. You can try the whole process again yourself if you feel confident enough. You can choose 1 or 2 of your best pots which will be fired with a clear glaze. This will really give you the opportunity to know the full process by actually doing it yourself and if you enjoy it, remembering this process requires time and patience, then classes are available for you to continue. Here’s how the class will run: - Demonstration of throwing process. - You’ll be guided through each step, from centring the clay to shaping your pot. - The workshop is a hands-on, 1.5 hour session with a maximum of four people. You’ll be working with clay and a variety of pottery tools, which will not only teach you the craft but also provide a relaxing and fun experience. By the end of this fun activity, you'll leave with a deeper appreciation for the pottery throwing experience and at a later date you will collect clear glazed pieces you've crafted yourself. This workshop promises to be an enriching and enjoyable experience, adding a personal touch to your pottery journey.
