Description

Learn beginner level woodwork, whilst making a gift for yours or a loved ones baby, in the beautiful Calder Valley, West Yorkshire. On this fun filled and absorbing, one day, Make a Wooden Baby Rattle workshop you will learn a range of woodworking skills and go home with your very own baby rattle. Each rattle is designed by you, however I do have some templates if you would prefer to follow a previous design. No experience is needed as I will guide you through every step. Your rattle will be suitable for babies to play with and, inevitably, chew on. Woodworking tools and machines used (in case you'd like to look them up first). - rulers/pencils - power drill - pillar drill - scroll saw - files and rasps - a brief intro to jigs (cutting templates) - sandpaper - oil/wax finishing techniques Each machine and tool in the process is demonstrated for best practise and health and safety. We also run amazing 3D puzzle workshops where you can make a freestanding puzzle, appropriate for a 2-3 year old to play with. Press the 'All listings' button at the very bottom of this page to see information! Charlie's rural workshop is situated in her garden, in a converted double garage. Set in beautiful quiet countryside just outside the village of Luddenden, with stunning views of The Calder Valley, West Yorkshire. It's within easy reach of Hebden Bridge and Haworth for those of you having a break in the area. My workshops are friendly, fun and relaxing aimed at all age groups from the age of 14 onwards (children from 14 to 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult). If you are a group and cannot make any of the workshop dates and would like to make a booking then please make contact as I can arrange alternative dates. If you have any questions prior to booking, please make contact. Please note, the workshop is in a rural location, down a narrow farm track. You will likely need a car to get here and parking is on different levels as the property is on the side of a valley. Please wear old clothes and shoes, and tie back long hair, as this a running wood workshop. It will be clean when we start but it won't take long for sawdust to cover the floors! Tea, coffee, water and snacks are available throughout the day. Please bring your own packed lunch. We have a garden with a bridleway running through it. There's plenty of space to stretch your legs on your break.

Welcome 😃 I'm Charlie West. I completed an apprenticeship in furniture making in 2020. Since then I've worked creating furniture, sculptural and commissioned woodwork for clients in Britain and Europe. When I had my daughter, Isla, in 2023 I started making toys for her to play with, and learn from. I also made them for friends, which they really enjoyed as it was something personal and special. And so the journey to toy maker and workshop facilitator began. Children change your life, so they say…. My woodworking sessions are broken down into small stages which result in elegant handcrafted pieces, with the aim of helping a child's development through using sustainable resources to create unique toys that will last a lifetime. My workshop, in the beautiful Calder Valley, West Yorkshire, is the perfect setting for a day of creativity and learning new skills.
