Make a silver ring - lost wax casting / February in Newmarket
Description
Create your own sterling silver ring! Learn about the lost wax casting process, then design and make a wax ring ready for casting. Not suitable for young children. In a small group of no more than 6 people we will be making our very own solid silver rings using the lost wax casting technique. Lost wax is a process starting with crafting the ring out of jewellers wax. A mould is made around the wax, and then molten silver is poured into the mould which burns away the wax and leaves a perfect cast in silver. In the workshop we will be creating our rings out of wax, which is a wonderful and adaptable material to work with, even beginners will find it easy to work with, and the detail is remarkable - you can have fingerprint detail if you wish to! The wax rings will then be taken offsite for casting, Nathan will finish and polish your silver ring and post back to you. An optional extra is to have oxidation (blacking) applied to the ring at this final stage, this technique is great for bringing out textural details. The workshop takes 2.5 - 3 hours, if you need more time to work on your ring attendees are welcome back to later workshops or to continue working on their wax from home. What to bring: You should have a couple of ideas and images of the type of ring you would like to make, if you use reading glasses you should bring those too.
What's included in the price?
T&C's: The ticket price is for creation of a single ring which must weigh no more than 1g in wax, which is equal to a 10g silver ring. If your piece weighs more than this then you will be charged extra according to the comparative weight value and casting fee. You will be advised on your design and its weight value at the workshop. The ticket price may vary according to the fluctuating stock price and associated material casting fees. If you have already purchased a ticket, you will be notified of any changes and entitled to a full refund.
